Walter Leroy Moody was a convicted American serial bomber and the oldest inmate to be executed since the death penalty was reinstated. Before his attacks on Judge Vance and attorney Robinson, he had been convicted of being in possession of a pipe bomb that had gone off in his home, injuring his wife, and was sentenced to five years in prison. He tried to appeal the conviction and acted as his own attorney as he had previously attended law school. It could be stated that he became too obsessed with the conviction believing it had ruined his career. Due to his appeal failing, he had gained resentment towards the court system but mostly towards Judge Vance, as he was the one who had convicted him and “ruined his life”. To get revenge, Moody started to build and send out bombs to people involved in the legal system. The other bombs that had been intercepted were meant to go to the NAACP making it believable that his other motive was racism. The evidence was then tracked down to him convicting him of federal murder and Alabama state charges in 1991 and 1996. He was then sentenced to death and put on death row. On April 19, 2018, Moody was executed by lethal injection with no last words.
